CBD oil: What exactly is it?

CBD oil or CBD drops consist of a CBD extract, which is mixed with a selected base oil (e.g. olive oil, hemp seed oil or coconut oil). To understand why the popularity of hemp products has been growing for years and why more and more people are buying this oil, let’s take a closer look at the basis of the product: CBD.

There are significant differences in quality between the various oils. That’s why you’ll find only the finest products – so you can always be sure that you’ll be able to buy high-quality products from our CBD oil online shop!

The CBD – the key ingredient for high-quality CBD oil

All our products are carefully selected and undergo quality testing. That’s why we offer the best CBD oil available online.

Before buying CBD oil, you should find out as much as possible about the product. As you might expect, it consists of the active ingredient found in the hemp plant – CBD.

So what exactly is CBD? CBD (short for cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive A cannabinoid derived from the female cannabis plant. For a long time, it was only its big, psychoactive brother, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), that received all the attention.

However, CBD is just one of over 100 different cannabinoids. Alongside THC, it is certainly one of the best known.

How does the CBD content differ between the oils?

There are CBD oils with varying levels of CBD content, ranging from 5 % to 40 % at our goodvibe CBD Oil Shop...

At the end of the day, however, everyone must decide for themselves what they prefer, so it is not possible to make a universal recommendation regarding the content.

You should look out for these quality criteria when choosing CBD oil

If you’re buying CBD oil in Switzerland, it’s worth paying attention to a few key quality criteria to ensure you get the best possible product.

  • Organic quality: In our shop, a number of manufacturers use hemp from certified organic cultivation – free from pesticides, herbicides and chemical additives.
  • Laboratory certificate: Furthermore, the majority of our manufacturers have every CBD product tested by independent laboratories. The analysis certifies the purity and CBD content, and confirms that the product contains no harmful substances.
  • THC limit values: In Switzerland, CBD oil may contain a maximum of 1 % THC – anything above this is illegal – and we therefore do not stock it.

By bearing these points in mind, you can ensure that your CBD oil is high-quality, legal and sustainable.

Entire oil – what are full-spectrum CBD oils?

The hemp plant has various ingredients. To date, around 600 different compounds have been identified in the cannabis plant. Full-spectrum oils contain not only CBD but also other compounds found in the cannabis plant. This is one of the main reasons why they are the most popular, but also the most expensive, oils.

By the way, we also have CBD flowers in our shop.

CBD – Extraction Methods: From Plant to Oil

To extract CBD from the hemp plant, there are various extraction methods. Each of these has its own advantages and disadvantages, which we’ll explain here. To do so, we’ll take a brief detour into chemistry.

CO2-extraction

In this method, the plant is saturated with liquid CO₂ in order to extract the plant material. To then separate the CO₂ from the CBD, the temperature is raised significantly and the pressure is reduced. In its gaseous state, a highly concentrated CBD extract remains.

Thanks to the extensive expertise required for the extraction process, the result is a particularly pure product with no solvent residues. The main disadvantages of this method are high costs. This method probably produces the best CBD oil.

Ethanol extraction

In an ethanol extraction, a highly explosive alcohol is used, in which the hemp plant is left to soak for several days. The mixture is then carefully filtered – leaving behind ethanol enriched with CBD. When heated, the ethanol evaporates, leaving behind the extracted CBD.

This method stands out for its low production costs and the rather simple manufacturing process. One drawback, however, is that traces of chemicals may be left behind during the manufacturing process.

Hydrocarbon extraction

Another method for producing CBD oil is hydrocarbon extraction. In this process, hydrocarbon flows through the plant, thereby extracting the CBD it contains. The hydrocarbon is then vaporised using heat and the gas is extracted using a vacuum. What remains is the valuable CBD extract. This process is also more cost-effective.

Oil extraction

The oil extraction process is as follows simple, as the name suggests. The cannabis plant is mixed with a carrier oil and heated in a bain-marie. This is usually olive oil, grapeseed oil or MCT oil. The mixture is then cooled back to room temperature and filtered. Et voilà – the CBD oil is ready for sale in the shop. Simple and cost-effective, but the end result is not a pure CBD extract.
